"Anaya"

The last litter of Roxys was born Sept. 1,00......by the third day she developed mastitus (sp) became very sick and came very close to dying..

I hand fed this dog for 4 days just keeping her alive. I saved her litter of 5 pups, by bottle feeding every 3 hours for the first 3 weeks of their lives.. I had them in a play pen and kept Roxy in the house for almost 2 weeks recooperating. I kept one of the female puppies, because something happened to her foot. The vet thinks Roxy laid on several of the puppies back legs. The vet. at 2 weeks old told me the best thing to do for this little puppy was to put her down, because her foot had become horribly infected from her scraping it on the floor.

I said that was not an option. We have had the foot amputated, and will possibley have to go back and have the whole leg amputated. When I decided to keep this beautiful little girl, I asked a small private list I'm on to help me pick her name....I had many names sent that I liked, but then one came in from my good friend Tracy Tappin, and the minute I saw it, I knew that would be her name...

Anaya.....it means "Gift from God"...which she certainly is that. Shortly after that, I made an appointment to have Roxy spayed, to prevent ever risking her life having pups again....Instead of saving her life, it wound up killing her. she formed an allergic reaction to the anestetic, and died within hours after surgery...Out of our 7 LGDs, she was definately our favorite. Her death was and is still a very hard thing for me to accept, but at least I still have part of her, in her beautiful daughter, Anaya.
